Check My Dice uses a Mersenne Twister random number generator to produce numbers between 1 and 6 and lists the first thousand numbers generated from a seed entered by the user. These numbers are listed in pairs. i.e. 64,23,51 ...
Mersenne Twister is an algorithm used by many games to generate random numbers. It uses a ‘seed’ as the starting point where different seeds produce unique, uniform lists of numbers that are indistinguishable from truly random numbers.
Check My Dice can be used in conjunction with our sister app “BG Buddy Backgammon Scoreboard, Clock and Dice” to prove that its dice are fair and are not being manipulated in any way.
When using BG Buddy each player enters a secret 4 digit number. These secret numbers are combined with another long number based on the date and time of the match, down to the millisecond, to create a very long seed for the dice generator.
At the end of the backgammon match the seed is revealed along with a text file containing all of the dice rolls from the match. Entering that seed into Check My Dice will produce the same list of dice rolls proving that BG Buddy had not manipulated the dice in any way during the match.
